Arelhe Urrperle

Back to 2024 Signature Installations

This six-metre high and visually-spectacular puppet presented by Erth Visual & Physical Inc was for all ages as she roamed across Parrtjima. Arelhe Urrperle represented our matriarchs and knowledge holders and was intrinsically connected to the Songlines of her Country. She recognised the influence and importance of our First Nations women, their strength and spirit, and their role as providers to the families connected to the Arrernte skin groups. Most importantly, she reminded us of the unique relationship to land, waterways, and sky country.

Featuring layers of sound and light, Arelhe Urrperle also sat down to take counsel with children and visitors, like the old ways of learning across the generations. She invited people to share a moment. Did they have a secret wish? What were their hopes and desires for the future? This was a quiet moment to share and reminded us all that we were always learning.
