The Language Of Goolarrgon Bard

Darrell Sibosado is a Bard man from Lombadina on the Dampier Peninsula of the Kimberley coast, Western Australia.

With the authority of elder custodians, his practice draws on the ceremonial riji (incised pearl shell) designs of the Goolarrgon clan, reimagining them as luminous contemporary light installations.

Translating carved knowledge into glowing, layered forms, Sibosado shares a visual language of the West, inviting visitors to recognise where this Country and knowledge come from.

The work acknowledges ancient trade routes and enduring connections between Western and Central Australia, honouring those who came before and affirming Darrell’s identity as a Bard man and his deep connection to Goolarrgon Country.
