Explore Parrtjima 2024, with the Interconnectedness theme, a six-metre wandering puppet, illuminated artworks and the first Buy Blak Market.

A six-metre wandering puppet joined the light-filled landscape of Parrtjima in 2024, as the ninth festival explored Interconnectedness. Held from 12 to 21 April in Alice Springs, the programme introduced new ways to encounter Indigenous art alongside live music and opportunities to support local businesses.

Named Arelhe Urrperle by the Parrtjima Festival Reference Group, the puppet moved through Alice Springs Desert Park, sharing stories and language. Honouring paid tribute to Arrernte leader Dr MK Turner OAM through an immersive passageway. Another installation, Arrernte, used illuminated cars to present artworks from different Arrernte language groups.

Returning experiences also evolved. Additional projection space expanded the MacDonnell Ranges Light Show, while Grounded introduced further interaction with the animated artworks on the sand. Troy Cassar-Daley and Shellie Morris appeared in a music programme that also included Miiesha and Mulga Bore Hard Rock.

For the first time, Parrtjima hosted a three-night Buy Blak Market with the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network and Desart. The marketplace brought Indigenous businesses into the festival experience through food and products. Across the full event, more than 21,000 attendances were recorded, continuing Parrtjima's role as a gathering place for visitors and the Central Australian community.
