Revisit Parrtjima 2018 and its Cultural Freedom theme, with Aboriginal art, illuminated installations and opportunities to meet the artists.

Cultural Freedom shaped Parrtjima's third edition, held in Alice Springs from 28 September to 7 October 2018. The festival explored the ways Indigenous artists express their stories through different materials and forms, with spaces for families to play, gather and experience art together.

Large projections once again animated the desert sands in Grounded. Elsewhere, the Gathering Space used artwork from Barkly Regional Arts in an installation of doors arranged in circles, inviting visitors to step inside. Local schoolchildren helped create bird shapes for the Gateway Nature Space, forming a tunnel of light and sculpture.

The Children's Space drew on colourful work from Keringke Arts, while the MacDonnell Ranges provided the setting for an expansive light and sound display. These installations offered different scales of experience, from details encountered along the paths to light stretching across the landscape.

Ikuntji Artists contributed works by Kelly Dixon, Keturah Zimran and Susie Lane. A meet-the-artists session on 30 September gave audiences an opportunity to hear about the stories behind the works and ask questions about the artists' involvement. Across the ten nights, live music and public conversations accompanied the visual programme.
