Hailing from the APY Lands in Pukatja, DEM MOB is the first hip-hop group from the region and the first to rap in Pitjantjatjara. Their mission is to empower First Nations youth by blending culture and music, using hip-hop as a tool for education and social change. Originally formed to keep member Jontae engaged in school, DEM MOB evolved into a platform for advocacy and artistic expression, with members Matt and Elisha creatively shaping education around Jontae’s passion for music. This journey led Jontae to become the first male student to achieve SACE on-country in Pukatja. 2023 was a breakout year, with the release of Still No Justice and Soul of the Lion, plus a standout performance at WOMAD. They’ve since taken their message global, performing at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and being invited to Bigsound ‘23. Winners of five South Australian Music Awards, including Best Hip-Hop Act and Best Music Educators, DEM MOB continues to push boundaries. With a 2024 international tour ahead and their new single DIP on the way, their voice is louder than ever.
