Hello! We are very happy you have come to Alice Springs Desert Park. This place belongs to the Arrernte language.
At the core of this community engagement project, The Gateway installation highlights the vital role artists and Aboriginal Art Centres have in the community along with Alice Springs Town Camps where many neighbouring nations reside.
The artists have painted the poles with traditional markings, representing their skin groups and homelands. The markings depict unique symbols tied to specific landscapes of significance to the artists. These artworks reflect their deep connection to the land, waterways, and sky country of their ancestors, amplifying the importance of community, cultural heritage, and the relationships that bind people to place and country.
