Eagle’s Eye

Back to Signature Installations

For the Arrernte people, the wedge-tailed eagle, known as irretye, is represented in the Southern Cross

The iconic Southern Cross constellation is one of great significance for desert communities, and is referred to as “eagle hawk’s foot”.

A first-of-its-kind sculpture, this spiralling tunnel of 160 combs mounted onto steel rings has been created from sustainably harvested bamboo, and features bespoke video animation.

The installation is brought to life through the animation of various works of artist Jeannie Nungarrayi Egan (1948-2009). Her use of colour and symbols creates a hypnotic portal, transporting the audience through a multi-sensory experience that will astonish and delight.
